I’ve been thinking a lot about the Docket lately, for some bizarre reason, and I wanted to get everyone’s perspective on him. I feel like we as Astros fans are in a pretty unique situation with him. He’s not an all-time franchise staple like he is with the Red Sox, he didn’t put up the best numbers ever like he did with the Blue Jays, and while he took us to our first-ever pennant, he didn’t go all the way with us like he did with the Yankees. But Clemens loved playing here, and he still lives in Texas to this day. Personally, Clemens (along with Oswalt) is who really made me start appreciating pitching; one of my favorite baseball memories as a kid is when I attended his comeback game in 2006 against the Twins, and Minute Maid was so jam-packed that my group had to change seats FIVE TIMES. But there’s also no getting around how his legacy has been tarnished after we learned he (and Pettitte) was on the steroids, and that’s why I wanted to know how y’all feel about him.
Also, funny story: I once saw him in a go-kart race with Brian Ching of the Dynamo. I couldn’t make that up if I tried, it was at the 2013 Grand Prix of Houston and they were casually having a go-kart race on the side just before the race started.
