Keeping our lights on for Thanksgiving
Post Body

Hi reddit, looks like our lights may be disconnected by tomorrow. It seems our local utility company is a black hole of greed that overcharges Gainesville, FL citizens even during the pandemic.

We have exhausted our extensions, programs like elder care and liheap have fell short for my mom. Since her entire SSI goes towards rent, I've been swooping in with part of mine to keep them on even at the expense of important things like food. It's important that the lights stay on because it's linked to her section 8 eligibility.

We're not wastrels, we practically live in the dark like subterranean creatures. GRU like I said overcharges people. Right now I have $150 to offer (that was groceries for the week but whatever) and my sister dropped $100 towards it. I figure $200 more could nip it in the bud for now and I can maintain it from here on out.

I have cashapp and PayPal if you guys are feeling generous. Many many thanks and happy Thanksgiving in advance.
