I received a call yesterday from my adopted son’s bio sister. She was in tears and said she had just left the mental hospital where she has been for the last month after a man raped her behind her job when taking out the trash. This poor child lost her mom to cancer when she was 10 and their father abused them and left her alone for weeks at a time in a motel room with no money no food and their 3 younger siblings. Two of them were my sons before we adopted them. All of them were under the age of 8 and she was only 13/14. She has no health insurance and no help bc their bio dad stole her birth certificate and social security card so he could claim her for food stamps…
I told her I would come get her immediately but we were not financially prepared for what we walked in to. This poor child had no clean clothes. One bra and two pairs of underwear. She smelled pretty bad to the point that I had to make the 2 hour drive home with the window down. She is stuck in constant panic attacks so I spent the last of my savings paying for a therapist app and a licensed doctor so she could get help. I had to pay out of pocket for her SIX prescriptions they gave her. I need to buy her clothes, underwear, bras, personal hygiene supplies.
I can help her get Medicaid and into school and let her stay here with us but am in a tough position getting her every thing she needs so short notice. We are a one income household with 3 boys already. I am a stay at home mom because our oldest is special needs(autistic) and our other two boys need stability and me present after dealing with neglect and abuse for most of their lives.
She had been living with another family member from their bio family but I didn’t realize what a poor situation she was in. This poor child has known nothing but suffering her entire life with no one to rely on or take care of her. I could really use some financial help just to get her settled in and the ball rolling. She is 18 so I plan on helping her get financial aid and letting her go back to school.
I can take cashapp or PayPal. Or I can have her create an Amazon wishlist of necessities. I just need a little help to get the ball rolling. Thank you for taking the time to read all this. I know it sounds like a lot and a crazy story but it is very real. I just want to offer her some stability and a home where she is safe and clean and supported.
Edit: Adding amazon wishlist. I do not expect anyone to buy everything on the list I just picked out some basic needs and a couple of things to make her a little reading nook where she can calm down in her own space when shes having panic attacks. Thank you everyone for the advice, resources, and help. I was very overwhelmed today and cannot express enough my gratitude for everyone reaching out.
Edit again: All the basic stuff has been purchased and when Bre woke up and I told her what this community did for her she just cried. To a kid that felt like she had no one her entire life this meant the world. Thank you all from the very bottom of my heart. And we will pay it forward when we get things stabilized a bit. Thanks for restoring my faith in humanity when the world kind of sucks right now.
