How do I avoid a cat creating an unhealthy attachment?
Post Body

We got this cat as a kitten a year ago and it is absolutely terrified of the outside so it’s a permanent indoor cat. It’s my niece’s cat and out of five people in the house I’m the only one who interacts with it more than just superficially. About two months ago it had kittens and I’m also the one caring for them. All five cats are constantly on me, climbing all over me, cuddling up next to me to sleep, and constantly trying to get my attention. She will even lay in my lap and fall asleep nursing her babies and they fall asleep still latched on in my lap too. Even this morning I couldn’t sleep because she was jumping on me, sticking her face in mine, and shoving her mouth up to my nose so her breath would wake me up just so I would pet her. I fear the attachment is getting to unhealthy levels and she is even teaching it to her babies.
