[META] - So what makes a good post?

Post Body

In addition to our posting guidelines I'd also like to point out a few things that make for a good post (or at least one that won't get removed).

  • Your title is actually a question - for the vast majority of the questions being asked here, it should take the form of a question. "How does XYZ impact ABC?" would be a good formulation. However, we understand that there are some questions that are just too long to include in the title. In those cases, a simple statement on the topic will suffice, such as this one titled "Hiring Freeze and Interships".
  • Explain your question! - You've probably read or heard something that led to your question. We might not have. You might be formulating the question in such a way that someone who really does know the answer doesn't understand what you're asking. Or, if nothing else, it gives those answering the question an idea of what you already understand and can fill in the gaps. If you do not provide at least some explanation in the body of your post, your question will be deleted from here on.
  • You avoid partisan jabs in your question/leading questions - This should be simple, given our goal, but questions like "Why are Democrats/Republicans allowed to lie all the time?" or "Given that Trump is an idiot, should we..." will be removed. Period.
  • Be ready to hear something you don't agree with - it should go unsaid.

And while we're here, let's remember some basic rules for commenting.

  • You are not here to score partisan points.
  • You are not to use slurs/insults/ad hominems attacks
  • You should be explaining the answer in sufficient depth that it answers the question
  • You should link to sources and/or have them ready
  • You should vet your sources to make sure they are good (when in doubt, would you use this in a college paper or as a professional report?)

And lastly, there are political/economic/social theories that exist on all parts of the spectrum that others disagree with.

Oh, and since I'm still here, remember:

Report any comments that break these rules.
