How did we get to the point where cutting off cops is the best thing you can do?
Post Body

This is an extremely meta question; but it's something I've been wondering for the last week.

Look at any legal advice post and the central themes are always the same; invoke the right to remain silent when being questions, do not consent to searches, etc. etc. Basically no matter what be as shut-in and secretive as possible from every cop at every turn.

Even though I know it's right considering the current state of things... it still feels wrong? Like; what happened to get to this point where even a truly innocent person still has to hide everything from people that ostensive are here to maintain peace? Is that not messed up to anybody else that the phrase "cops aren't your friends" is actively true in most scenarios?

And there's just so many other queries regarding this being the reality like... how did we get here?

Why did we get here? When did we get here? Was there a way for us not to get here? Should we have gotten here? Is it good that we're here? Are we stuck here? Should we want to be here?...

And basically, a whole other set of questions that amount to "What pray tell is up with the current situation and why?"

Any thoughts that the professionals here have? Cause I got no answers.
