Lately, I have noticed when women in public places who are standing while speaking will cross one leg in front of the other. Both legs are kept straight, and the feet are separated by at least 12 inches. It's like taking a step to the left by moving the right foot across the front, while leaving the left foot down.
What does it mean? Is she trying to make herself smaller? Does it mean discomfort or nervousness? Is it self protective? Is it a form of fidgeting, where she wants to move while staying in the same place?
I have not seen men do it.
I am wondering if anyone is conscious of doing it and why they do it.
Edit: here's an example, on short notice: https://www.dreamstime.com/young-woman-jeans-white-t-shirt-standing-legs-crossed-holding-hands-hip-smiling-looking-away-full-length-image101106419
