Should I be feeding my 8 month old saluki "large breed" puppy food?

I recently adopted an 8 month old saluki. He's currently about 40 lbs. He has his first vet appointment on Monday so I'll be asking there as well, but I was wondering about large breed dog food.
I picked up regular puppy food but it only dawned on me today he might fall into the large breed category. Is it ok to feed him the regular kind? Could it be detrimental in anyway if he should be eating the large breed variety?
