Hello! To start, my dog is just over 10 years old. She’s a jack-a-bee, she’s a healthy weight (I think 18-22 lbs?), was spayed when adopted about 10 years ago. About about 2-3 years ago, she was diagnosed with diabetes. She regularly goes to the vet to get her blood sugar checked, which she is always doing fine. She’s doing wonderful with her diabetes, but the problem is with her shots.
The first month of giving her a shot was a little tough to adjust to (not shocking), but after a while she began to take it like a champ, no problems for the first 2 years of her diabetes. But for the last month, every time I go to give her her shot, she shakes really violently once she realizes what I’m about to do. This immediately ends once it’s over and it’s like nothing ever happened. But it was never like this. I have stuck her and made her yelp a couple times, and after that she was a little cautious with my next shot, but I have not hurt her in months. This behavior is really heartbreaking and it makes me feel like a sucky dog-mom.
Her blood sugar levels are fine. I switch up the spot that I stick her, as told to by my vet. Is it maybe just age? Is there anything I can do to help her not be a wreck? I always give her lots of love and a tiny treat after, I just want to know if there’s anything else I can do. Thanks
