Feel bad to leave my post op dog at vet boarding
Post Body

Hey y’all, I have a male 14 year old long haired chihuahua who weighs 6lbs who recently had a lump removal from his cheek, and a third eyelid flap created for a punctured eye. We took him home the night after surgery and he was in pain and whining which gave our other dog anxiety to not eat because he was concerned for his buddy.

He was given 2 antibiotics and eye drops and pain meds. We could not give him his medication properly because he would spit it out or squirm too much for the eye drops . It would break my heart every time he would moan and whine because he was in pain or because of not being comfy with the cone and drainage tube from his cheek. The pain meds wouldn’t last long for him. When talking to the vet he said that if we board him that the vet techs who check in on him Can properly give him his meds. I opted in for 4 nights because my no one at home could give him the attention he needs since I have an aunt in the ICU 2 hours away who also needs me ( no kids, thinks of me as her kid).

About the boarding, it’s the same place where he got the surgery so there’s vet techs that come in and do boarding care stuff.

I feel like a bad owner that I can’t take care of my sick dog. Should I have left him at home and found a pet sitter?

Am I evil if I decide to board him the full 2 weeks for his recovery? Because I know at least I know the boarding people have good experience giving meds and taking care of post-op doggies.
