Signalment (species, age, sex/neuter status, breed, body weight): Tabby American Shorthair, male, neutered, 6 years old, unsure about weight. He’s a larger cat, vet said slightly overweight.
Short history: frequent urinary blockages. He’s been to the vet each time. He always manages to unblock himself, so no procedures have been done. He’s been put on Gabapentin, 2 ml every 12 hours.
He’s been switched from kibble to strictly wet food. The blockages started up again, so I’m budgeting for: Royal Canin SO urinary wet food, Royal Canin urinary treats, natural pets organic capsules, and HomeoPet urinary tract infection supplements for when he starts displaying initial symptoms. Please let me know if I’m on the right track with the items mentioned above.
Clinical signs (vomiting, coughing, fever etc): frequent urinary blockages. Straining to urinate, sluggish, unmotivated to eat.
Length of time you have seen these changes: since he turned 4 y/o. He’s 6 y/o now. 2 years of random blockages. It’s been getting worse these last few months in terms of frequency.
Links to any vet reports, test results, X-rays etc. that you already have: confirmed UTI, but he’s unblocked himself each time he was received by the vet. Has not undergone any procedures.
Your general location: DFW, USA.
I have already spent over thousands of dollars on vet visits. I don’t earn much money, so being able to take him right away is very difficult and unaffordable for me. I’ve used every last penny each time and neglected to pay my bills to make sure he’s taken care of. Please don’t assume I neglect him or refuse to prioritize his health. I do absolutely everything I can for him. I’m trying to save up for a PU surgery if it benefits him.
He keeps getting blockages. He was prescribed Gabapentin to calm his bladder.
I need help finding the best litter for him. I read that clumping litters can be horrible for cats with urinary issues because of the dust. I don’t care about the odor anymore. I just need the best litter you can recommend for his health.
