My two year old golden started having really liquid watery diarrhea Friday morning, I called his vet and they said if he’s still eating and drinking and not vomiting, to just continue a bland diet and stop taking the rimadyl he was prescribed on Monday. Saturday still no change and called the vet again and they said the same thing. Sunday night, still no change and he’s having to go outside multiple times an hour just to squeeze out more liquid diarrhea. I took him to the ER vet Sunday around midnight and they did some bloodwork and his kidney and liver levels were normal. They gave him subcutaneous fluids because he seemed a little dehydrated. They gave him some probiotic paste and some probiotic pills to put in his food, along with trazadone and gabapentin to try and help him relax since he’s been pacing and not resting at night. We got home around 3:30am last night and I must’ve been so exhausted I slept through any whines to go outside last night and woke up to three different diarrhea accidents in the living room, still brownish yellow liquid with no form. Called the vet again this morning to see if I should give him his food and they said yes, it’s probably a bad gastrointestinal issue that might take a while to pass and if he’s eating and not vomiting then they’re not worried about a possible obstruction. He’s not very interested in his food, picked around the rice and scrambled eggs and lean ground beef. He’s allergic to chicken so ground beef is the blandest we can do. Has anyone experienced this long of a bout of diarrhea with their pup with no improvement in consistency after four days? I feel like I’m doing all I can to help him and I’m sure he feels like crap with whatever is causing this, and I’m at a loss as to what I can do to help him more.
