Did my vet over treat my dog?
Post Body

My 7 yr old spayed female basset hound has had a few accidents in the house which is unlike her, so my fiancé and I wanted to have her checked for a UTI. She had no other symptoms and is generally a very healthy dog. We brought her to our local Thrive with a urine sample they asked for, they examined her and said she looks great, then presented us with either the option for urinalysis on our sample, or what they called ultra sound guided collection, culture and urinalysis. I explained that we really aren’t that concerned she has a uti, just want to double check and then we both thought we agreed to them taking another free sample to hopefully be cleaner than ours. Come to find out when we go to pay that they did the ultrasound option. We were confused but assumed it was our mistake for misunderstanding. After the appointment we looked into what it actually is since they never explained that procedure, and were very upset to see how invasive it is. We feel so guilty that we put her through that and it feels that in an effort to save her from discomfort we caused far more harm. It seems to us that we were advised to do the far more invasive and therefore expensive option. Are we overreacting or did our vet choosee the excessive option?
