I checked FAQs but I wasn't seeing what I needed. I am currently watching my mom's cat. She has been in my care for maybe 15 hours and I am not showing any sign that the litter box has been used. She is very scared and confused, I know that. She's primarily an outdoor cat who comes in to chill for about 1-2 hours a day at my mom's house and then she wants out. So, being in a small space for so long is for sure a change. She has mostly been laying in one spot, though she has gotten up a few times to eat. Unsure if she has had water, but she has eaten. I go in and check on her about once every 45 minutes to an hour. She is in the bathroom and has holed up on a blanket that smells like home. At what point should I become worried about a blockage? No straining that I can see, she just has not been in the litter box.
Species: Domesic Short Hair
Age: 4
Sex/Neuter status: F/Spayed
Breed: N/A
Body weight: Maybe 8-9 lbs max
History: She is a primarily outdoor cat who knows how to use a litter box. She has an open top box at home with low sides. My cats require a high side box with a top because I have one who likes to mark. The litter box I put in there with her is new and has never been used by my cats. I don't want to pick her up and put her in there because she doesn't like to be picked up. She is a very hissy and growly thing and while she hasn't swatted or bitten yet, I don't want to scare her more than she already is.
Clinical signs: She's just been laying around, not doing much. No sign of her using the litter box. I offered her a treat I usually feed my cats a little while ago, but she started heaving, so I did not give them to her and instead gave her one of her treats for fear of allergies. Overall just a very unhappy cat with possible growing discomfort.
