Hi! My cat is approx. 8 years old, indoor only, on a special kibble for urinary issues, and had a successful surgery for those urinary issues ~3 years ago. He was neutered during that surgery. He's about 14lbs. He's some kind of shorthair cat, we think he's some type of Russian Blue mix. We live in the upper Midwest.
He's an aggressive little cuddlebug and very very food aggressive/motivated. He wants to be picked up and carried everywhere. He goes after any food he possibly can-- residue on dirty dishes, dropped crumbs, tears apart plastic bags to get to bread, etc. Has to be fed seperately from our other cat or he will shove the other kitty away to eat their food too. He has to be fed out of a puzzle ball or he eats too fast and regurgitates it.
For at least the past 4 days he's been unable to keep food down, showing less interest in eating, and hiding a lot-- which is VERY unusual for him, because he loves attention. He normally shows a lot of enthusiasm for feeding times-- screaming at us for an hour or more before he knows to expect food.
It started with him vomiting up furballs. He's never had a furball issue, but he was vomiting up multiple per day. Now he just vomits a few minutes after eating, whenever he eats. He hasnt kept a meal down in at least 4 days. He still will eat when given food but doesn't show his usual enthusiasm for food. He spends all his time hiding away under furniture which, i cannot stress enough, is something that he NEVER EVER does. He also is dry heaving sometimes.
My partner and I both felt around his abdomen last night and this morning and nothing sticks out to us as feeling unusually firm or distended. We were worried at first about his bladder, because of his pervious urinary issues. My partner says they think he has been using the litterbox like normal.
Any idea what could be wrong with my baby? :( Unless he gets worse, we're waiting until Monday to call the vet. The emergency vet is technically an option, but i would need to completely drain my tiny savings and max my credit cards for that (right before I go on maternity leave 😅) so we're trying to avoid it if at all possible.
Edit: Kitty finally crawled out of hiding to come snuggle, and his pupils are VERY dilated. Almost no iris. I shone a light in his face to see if they'd contraxt like normal and they only contracted slightly.
