Lack of Financial support options in UK as new resident, is it just me?

Hello, Does anyone else find that's it's impossible to get any sort of financial assistance in UK while being here for a relatively short time? Personal loans, overdrafts and credit cards seem to be totally unobtainable.
Even a friend of Mine that have been here for over 3 years working full time is unable to get an overdraft!
This has never been an issue for any country I've emmigrated to in the past!
