It’s been a few months into a developer role at a company and I’m not enjoying it. I was wondering if its worth sticking it out for 12 months or should I find another role and leave sooner. My probation period has passed and I’m only just now realising that I don’t think this role is for me.
It’s a multiple of reasons as to why I’m not enjoying it. I’ve realised the company is too large and I’d prefer working at a smaller one. Lesson learnt. Linked to this, due to the large size of the firm, there’s a huge reliance on consultancy/outsourcing firms and I think that does impact the culture of the team. My team is mainly outsourced who have worked on the currently project for a long time. They ‘know’ the requirements and they don’t include clear requirements/acceptance criteria in the user stories. Makes it extremely difficult for new joiners! Also, the lack of resources - the size of the testing team compared to the development team and the amount of on call support I have to provide.
