What are the best/safest spots in Turkey for a queer hijabi?

Hello r/AskTurkey!

Queer hijabi woman from the US here. I have had my eye on a visit to Turkey for a bit (kinda expensive from where I am, though). IDK how long I would stay yet. I do have some questions that I'd like to ask you here.

I'm not into the touristy stuff that ppl usually do, I like to blend in with the locals. It's ok if one does like it, just not for me. I also don't drink alcohol, so no bars for me.

  • Where are the best local spots for a foodie, like myself in Istanbul?

  • Where are the safest spots there for a woman? The most dangerous?

  • Where else in Turkey should I go, that would be quiet and safe?

  • What other activities should I do as someone who'd be on a budget and is quiet and introverted?

  • I'd also like to go to the mosque with local women, as I would feel safer. How would I do that?

  • Affordable souvenirs that I can buy (besides travel magnets)?

Thanks so much!

Be safe, L
