Does anyone else feel like beauty is a shield from the world?

I always think that as long as I am beautiful I will survive, as long as I am I have a purpose and so if I present myself in a way that’s less beautiful I feel like I’m giving up part of my protection. It probably has something to do with the way society views women and how I have been treated specifically, but I’m probably not the only one that feels this way.
