Currently 26 and have been a pediatric licensed practical nurse for 2 years. Torn between getting my RN or becoming a teacher, but I can’t help but feel too old. I’ll be around 32 once I graduate if I start classes this year.
I’ve grown to not be passionate about nursing anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I provide great patient care, but Working weekends, holidays, nights, the disrespect, etc. I know teaching isn’t all rainbows and sunshine bc my sister is a high school teacher, so she tells me all the horrors of it. But I do love working with kids and have been considering this career path for a while now. Mostly went into nursing to please my mother to begin with.
Another worry I have (on top of my age) is job security and livable wages as a teacher. I feel like I constantly read about massive teacher layoffs haha. What do you guys think?
UPDATE: wow! I did not expect all of these responses! Thank you to everyone who chipped in. I think I’m going to take the leap and go for it! I’m in New Jersey, about 15 minutes out from NYC. after doing some research, a teachers salary is relatively close to a nurses around here! I did attempt to get my RN, and failed the first semester recently. While I was devastated, I’ll take it as a sign to move on to what I really want, haha.
No! it's not u can become a teacher at 32 lol :))
