A maths teacher of mine a while ago was very insistent that a student remove their durag because it wasn’t contributory to the uniform (I guess in the same way that teachers may ask you to remove your hoods/hats)
But it kind of rubbed me the wrong way - firstly, the durag is essential in maintaining some Black hairstyles. I can’t imagine a student being asked to remove pins/clips/bobbles/scrunchie/gel. Secondly, it may be worn to embrace the Black culture in which the durag has been long prominent, hence strengthening ones cultural identity.
