How valid are studies of gender differences in neonates?
Post Body

Someone recently posted a link to one at /r/badeconomics: https://old.reddit.com/r/badeconomics/comments/8v6r6w/lets_discuss_wage_gap_one_more_time/e1lpamz/

I was really surprised at how underpowered the study was.

Take a look at Table 2 - they find that female neonates look at a face for 49.4 seconds (SD 20.8), while males look at it for 45.6 second (SE 23.5).

Standard statistical analysis to me would suggest that the finding was no difference between gender, given the small finding and large variance.

Are there other, more rigorous studies out there? Do people take gaze studies on monkeys seriously after the Marc Hauser scandal?
