Hi! We here at asksciencefiction would like to talk to people new and old to clear up some stuff and help everyone have a good time with us doing watsonian argument. Ok I hear you asking "why are you standing so close and talking like you are in a WW2 era psa... oh and what is watson thingy" Well I am glad you asked friend! Watsonian argument is the type of discussion we have here at asksciencefiction. It consists of finding in universe sources, explanations, and rationalizations for questions about fictional universes. It is both entertaining to dissect and ponder your favorite fiction, useful as a creative exercise, and rewarding for fans that wanted an explanation for things that always bothered them about works they otherwise enjoyed.
Now you may ask "Hey you didn't explain the creepy announcer voice and also can I talk about the author and production if there is a question that needs it? I mean lucas is a fucking hack." And the answer would be no, you aren't allowed to use what are called "doylest" arguments. Now that isn't to say you are strictly forbidden to mention the authors but there are very few times when it is applicable and those timer are when the author gave out in universe information. The other circumstance is when you must reference the author because of a title discrepancy. Oh, and while doylest arguments are forbidden clear references are not. You are allowed to know something is a work of fiction and are under no onus to behave otherwise even though many people think it is fun to do so.
"Seriously dude you are freaking me out!" Oh right, the only other rule I'm glad you brought that up! While there is a lot of arguments and even fights please try to keep things polite and respectful. If You don't like role playing ignore it, if you disagree with someone bring evidence not anger. We are nerds and there aren't many safe places on the internet, lets work together to make this one of them!
