[Star Wars] I’m a new ISB officer, why is my boss so obsessed with hunting down the Jedi, a tiny and mostly extinct cult?

Post Body

My unit and I are pretty close to busting a Rebel stronghold when suddenly my superior officer and manager comes into our office and says to concentrate on locating a single Jedi on the planet and to forget about the rebels until the Jedi is hunted down.

Why?

Aren’t the Jedi an extinct cult that got wiped out years ago? If there are any left, there are probably just a handful of them. Why are we supposed to be obsessed with hunting them down?

Should I go another higher ranked officer to ask if my manager is being kind of crazy and obsessive?
