[Star Trek] Turns out I'm genetically enhanced. What's the correct way to handle this?

Post Body

I was minding my own business in a holographic sculpting class taught by Michelangelo when I was alerted to an incoming surprise visit from my mom. I put Michelangelo on pause and arrived in the living room to find her an inconsolable wreck. She tearfully explained to me that when I was a child she had conspired to have me illegally genetically augmented. She said she could no longer bear the guilt of keeping it a secret all these years and would accept any consequences of her action.

I was horrified, of course; I learned about the evils of Khan Singh in school same as anyone, and I realized sorting out this mess is definitely going to cut into my sculpting time. For the latter reason trying to leverage my superior physical and intellectual abilities into a secretive Star Fleet career or becoming dictator of Earth is straight out. Who has the time?

What is the 'correct,' legal way for me to handle this knowledge as a good citizen? Mom's definitely going to space prison, which is an outcome we're both prepared to accept, but am I? Is it illegal for me to be an Augment or only for her to have made me one? I'm not allowed service in Star Fleet, but will going public with this affect my one and only passion, which is to live out my days as a nobody on the post-scarcity Earth filling my house with hand-sculpted duck statues?

Comments

Being generically enhanced is the Star Trek equivalent of being gay in the 60s so don't ask don't tell.
