Resident Evil 7 takes place in 2017, four/five years after RE6.
Ethan Winters gets a mail from his wife, who has been missing for three years and looks panicked out of her mind, telling him don't fucking come to this specific house here to look for me.
He does not call anyone except a single friend of his. No police, no nothing. He drives there alone. We know for a fact that he has a phone on him, as he calls his friend while going there. In 2017 you would also be hard pressed to find someone traveling to a different state/city without taking their phone, I'd imagine, especially in the RE universe. Smart phones are obviously a thing, what with the cubes from RE6.
Later on he is attacked by a crazed Mia rambling about people who obviously abducted her. He sees a VHS tape of a man getting killed and two others attacked.
He does not call anyone. Then he gets knocked out, presumably losing his phone.
Later on a singular cop shows up, apparently a repeat visitor at the house. He agrees to give Ethan his knife and meet him in the garage, then gets a mean headache from Jack Baker, who seemingly kills himself after a brief fight with Ethan.
Ethan does not check the cop for his phone. Ethan does not attempt to call anyone over the cop's radio.
Later on he finds a landline in the Bakers' home. It's possible that it's only connected to other phones on the property...but I'm pretty sure that Ethan never checks.
What gives?
