Adding to this: What makes feudalism arise are usually a higher value in Land due to heightened specialization. What makes it collapse is specialization outpacing that.
In other words: When you need to feed a lot of people centralization of farm land makes a few people extremely wealthy. Once there's people who can make a ton of money using writing or machines the value of Land ownership declines. Add to that agricultural machines and it's pretty much over.
In Dune, feudalism is heavily supported by control over Spice which is something you can't think or engineer your way around without being accused of supporting robot Hitler.
