What is the maximum angle you can displace a Newton's cradle, without moving the inner bobs?
Post Body

So I've been trying to work out the maximum displacement you can apply to one of the bobs in a five-bob newton's cradle (in the linear regime) for fun. I must admit that I'm stuck a little bit! Intuitively I guess that the angle is going to depend on the mass of the bobs (for the inertia) and the length of the wire suspending the bob. I've been deriving myself crazy trying to work this out. Anybody have any ideas?
