I'm moving to San Francisco with my co-worker: Where should I live?

Post Body

Budget: The job will pay me 90k/yr, plus a 10k bonus end of year. A 50k bonus that I already earned that will pay out soon. My roommate will make about 70k/yr. A 30k bonus that he earned will pay out soon. Total budget maybe like $3,500 combined? As it is in L.A, I already pay $1750 a month for a room.

Roommate Status: Will split with my co-worker/friend

Desired Neighborhood: Anywhere where we won't be killed. Also if it's modern looking is a plus. We're looking at Oakland around William street.

Commute: We have cars but will be OK taking BART or the fetty etc.

Housing Preference: Apartment, don't care otherwise.

Preferences: My roommate wants a gym and a pool. I have no preference.

Our job will be in civic center. Thoughts about living in Oakland or any other recommendations?
