So I am a 32 M, and I love reading romance & erotica novels. I'm interested in most things, though most of what I read is in the heterosexual (M/F) contemporary romance space.

Now, I understand that a lot of the romance genre is written by women for women. I'm here for it. Though there's one thing I consistently find jarring.

If the male character is ever referenced on the page to have jerked off... it will almost always be in the shower. There seems to be a universal trope for this, where the shower is presumed the default place to jerk off.

Now, IRL I'm no stranger to a little self love. But of ALL the places I might jerk off... the shower is the very last on my list. Water is a terrible lubricant.

So I've got to wonder... am I alone in this? Do other guys actually like jerking off in the shower (over other places)?
Or if you're F, have you ever actually known a guy to prefer jerking off in the shower?
