Permanent disability — a turn-off for a connection / potential relationship?
Post Body

I (44M) have been wandering on some of the virtual relationship subs of Reddit in search of that connection.

For context, I lost my right arm while fighting cancer at a young age and dating has always been an issue despite being an accomplished professional (executive level) and all the rest.

During the last couple of months, I ran an informal A/B-n test where I would either

  • talk about my disability from the get-go
  • Disclose face, then the body (without visible disability), then the disability
  • Disclose the face, then the body with visible disability.

The result is systemically the same. As soon as the others discover my missing arm, they tend to lose interest in the conversation.

So ladies and gentlemen of Reddit, is a permanent disability such as mine a turn-off for a potential virtual connection and potential relationship?
