Long nails and fingering?

I dont understand when women have long nails and are able to finger themselves? I understand it's also often In porn, which is staged and they don't necessarily enjoy it, but even in "OC" content, I see people with some length to very very long nails finger themselves. How are they not scratching up their insides? If you have long nails please let me know cause I really don't understand how it can be comfortable. Is it just something you get used to?
