Apple Watch tracks my strokes as steps?

I got an Apple Watch for Christmas and realized this morning that it records my edging as steps. Didn’t even cross my mind until it encouraged my efforts. 😂😂
Anyone else use their smart watch hand as their play hand?
Does anyone know of groups that track and share their efforts? 😈
