What should the US do about the attack against the US Libyan embassy and killing of the US ambassador ?

The UK embassy in Iran was attacked by students, who breached the wall and damaged the embassy - no one was killed. The Vienna Convention requires states to protect embassies. As a result of this failing, the UK withdrew diplomatic presence in Iran and required the Iranian embassy in the UK to close.
What should the US do about not only the breach into the embassy grounds but the killing of the ambassador ?
