Hey Reddit. Today my little brother and I had a horse-style trick competition off of our diving board. With his turn under way, he declares the "trick" to dive off of the board and "swim as far as you can underwater while holding your breath." I immediately declined this submission as a talent, not a trick. He argues that holding your breath underwater is a trick, not a talent.
I would have accepted the diving part as a trick. Although some people might not be able to dive, they can practice it to get better. I could not dive when i was young, but got advice on how to do so, and soon enough, i was diving left and right (in the pool, of course).
Someone else in my family gave a second opinion, stating that they had to swim underwater while training in the army. Because they were at the beach a lot, they had no problem swimming to one end and back in one go. Similarly, they said, another soldier had told him he had swam in the ocean constantly, but couldn't even make it down to the end without coming up for air.
You make the call Reddit. We've already ruled it a talent here (much to my brother's objections), but I would like to see your responses to this debate.
