Dental Help? Looking for recommendations re: implant vs. bridge. I'm terrified.

I went in to a new dentist, because my family has switched, and I decided to visit before I left town for a few months. 2 hours later, my poor dentist and I had survived a difficult extraction w/infection that I had no indication of before my pictures were taken. Recovering well, taking very good care of the site, but was wondering if anyone had advice - It sounds like an implant is worth the investment, but not sure.
