What would you rather be named and why?

okay so this is actually very interesting to me because I have a son we named Charles but we call him Charlie. I wanted his birth certificate to say Charles so he could have a formal name to go by in a professional setting, but I wonder if we should have just named him Charlie....

You've really got to start at a young age and really really do something (or be born of someone special) to get that sort of suffix. However, as I understand it there is no real requirement for the usage of Esquire so you can always use that?
