Anyone have any good or bad experiences using Priceline for airline tickets?

So I'm taking the wife and kids to Europe for Christmas to visit family & the ticket prices I'm finding are atrocious! I'm also on a set budget and the cheaper I can get the flights, the more spending money we have, so I figured I'd try priceline.com but was wondering if anyone has any insights or would like to share their experience with the service, positive or negative?
Also, I was wondering if you name your price and they find you something for said price, are you automatically committed to buy at that point?
