When did it stop being "the prom" and start being "Prom?"
Post Body
When I went to high school, it was "the prom," and everyone understood it to be short for "promenade." There was a senior prom and a junior prom.
Lately, it seems like everyone calls it "Prom" with a capital p, and well-informed teenagers tell me it doesn't stand for or mean anything—Prom is just the word for Prom, like banana is the word for banana.
When and why did this happen?
