Would like some information about the IT field.

I am a senior in high school and I plan on going to college. I was looking for something IT related and I was wondering if anyone on reddit could give me a better idea about this profession. I was wondering what majors would help me find a job, in this crappy economy, in this area. Also any general information or feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.
