When someone is telling you something about themselves, what are some better, more sensitive responses than a relatable story about yourself?
Comments

Restate what they’ve said to show you’re listening and then either ask a follow up question or show empathy. Like if someone tells you their mom died a few years ago, you could say, “I’m sorry you lost your mom. What was she like?” Or “I’m sorry you lost her, that must have been hard for you.”
