Addicts of Reddit, what was your addiction like? How did you get over it?
Post Body

I'm going to start off by saying that I don't get the whole 'addiction' thing. If I want to stop something, I stop it, sometimes just to prove that I can. I've been eating vegan for a while, go weeks without drinking liquor or caffeine. Cocaine is AMAZING- which is why I decided not to do it any more.

What were/are you addicted to?

Why did you give it up?

Have you replaced one addiction for another? (Drinking for knitting?)

Were you sick or just selfish?

I posted a less-than-sympathetic post because I don't view a lack of an activity as an accomplishment and quite a few people came to the defense of addicts. I'm not asking you to sway me, but I am genuinely interested now- please share your story.
