Now maybe this sounds like not such a big deal, it’s very common to want family history provided and i am in full support of that. HOWEVER, I have been receiving care from this provider for almost 2 years now, mostly consistently with the exception of some times where i had forgotten appointments and then failed to remember to reschedule. We have been speaking about the possibility of an ADHD diagnosis, and I have provided her with my symptoms that have been present majority of my life but have become more apparent to me since beginning college. I’ve provided her with past therapy/psychiatry notes with mentions of difficulty concentrating, procrastination, issues with focus etc dating back to as far as 2020. To be fair, these symptoms are listed under GAD symptoms, which was the most present issue 2020-2021ish and before (I do not have access to notes prior to 2020). The only issue with this is the fact that those attention and focus difficulties are present regardless of mood (i also am diagnosed bp2) and regardless of anxiety and are quite literally present in most if not every action i do in a day. After all of the notes, providing personal history of early school years up to present day symptoms, she told me this was not sufficient but a short talk with a parent to hear their memory of history would be. This didn’t sit right with me as I am literally an adult and have been seeing this provider since being a legal adult, not to mention the implications of having my also scatter brained mom and her inability to believe her children could have any such disorder because of the negative views she has associated with it (my sibling also has a bp2 diagnosis AS WELL as an ADHD diagnosis). Is this a common practice? This isn’t the first time i’ve raised red flags with this psychiatrist, and i’m worried i am wasting my time and being ignored and inadequately treated, which is overall having serious impact on my life. Should I be concerned?
