Hi all,
I've been a "Unity" developer for a few years now (VR tech / plugins / apps, rather than gaming) and also spent a year as a software engineer for an AI startup. My last role ended a few months ago, after the company ran out of funding. I took some time to do some travelling for family reasons / and also spent a month recovering from surgery.
I'm a little confused about my future career path, so apologies if this post is a little messy!
I don't have a compsci background, but got into my first role off a Physics degree with a lot of C .
I've got strong foundations in OOP and Maths, but not really sure where that fits into the market.
Right now:
I'm looking for new roles, but I can't really seem to find many Unity jobs at all. And if I do find any they're more gaming and want a gaming portfolio...
From all the jobs I've seen on LinkedIN, WebDev (.Net / Java) seems to be the majority.
I've started working on a few small projects to learn the concepts and best practices for WebDev. As well as currently taking the "Complete guide to building an app with .Net Core and React" Udemy course.
I've been in touch with a few recruiters for WebDev jobs, the meeting always goes well and they say they'll pass on my profile, but nothing ever comes of it.
Questions:
1) OOP / Maths / Physics are my strong suits, what kind of roles should I look for, and also what should I type in / google search to look for said roles.
2) How do I get past initial screenings / automatic CV rejections?
3) Should I even be trying to get into WebDev?
I know I should expect rejections and be resilient, but I am not even sure if I am doing what's best for me / going in the right direction.
On top of those questions, any general advice would be really great!!
