Best way to learn a new language and add value to resume for universities?

Post Body

So, I wanna learn some front-end languages like HTML, JS and CSS. I'm doing a project for CS at school, so it's gonna be useful for that too.

Initially I was planning on using w3 schools and youtube videos to learn them, but then I came across Code Academy which has courses that teach you the language and also provide certificates for it. I did some research and saw many people advising others like me to learn the language for free from their preferred source and work on projects, which add more value to resumes, while the language can be added as a skill.

This brings me here with my question. What should I do? My only goal is to learn the languages and I can spend a little bit of money on courses if that's a better option, but nothing too expensive.
