Been doing a lot of stuff on GitHub, Atom, and various other "programming"-centric text editors, and the most frustrating thing is the auto-formatting and auto-completion.
I hate hitting Return, and getting Tabs I don't want.
I hate pasting a link, and getting an HTML embed instead.
I hate typing a function, and having it auto-correct to a different function.
Having my text editor automatically recognize the language I'm using and color different elements (just so I know when I still have open quotes or brackets somewhere) is crazy helpful, that's the whole reason I want an IDE, but literally everything else that tries to """help""" me is super frustrating and I struggle to figure out how to turn all of it off in most cases.
I'm torn between featureless Notepad-esque text editors, full-featured document editors, and IDEs that insist on trying to read my mind and force me to constantly go back and correct a bunch of code that wouldn't have needed correcting had it just left me the hell alone in the first place
Any advice for this?
