Hey all… where to begin.
Okay, back in 2017 i was accepted into a bootcamp. Long story short, it didn’t pan out that great, but i did leave there with the skills of android development. Creating apps and programming was something i enjoyed. But i never could get a grasp of DSA because i was too scared of my own failure and ineptitude.
I’m not good with math, very remedial at best. But i do love programming. After my bootcamp, i got jobs mainly teaching younger people how to code. It was great, i even had a stint teaching for one of Google’s programs. However, all these jobs would tell me they were bringing me on for teaching android, but when i’d start, they’d tell me i had to be more tech agnostic, and to start learning and teaching web dev. I did this for quite some time, but now i’m ready to finally apply to be an android developer.
Here’s the issue; all these years gaining experience teaching and working as a support engineer, hasn’t sharpened my android skills, and has made me lose touch with a lot of new developments in the field, so i feel far behind. I just started teaching myself Kotlin.
I don’t know how to properly shift into becoming an android developer, and I am not good with Data Structures and Algorithms. I know this is something i have to tackle in order to finally start my development career, but I literally don’t know where to start or what to do. What projects to make to help me stand out as a candidate, and practicing interviews problems is hard since i dont have anyone to help me with that. I’m not sure what my next steps should be and honestly, the imposter syndrome is so real, i’m not even sure I can.
Tl;dr: learned to code in Java and android, lot of jobs were teaching code and web dev and not android specific, now it’s been 5 years, i want to be an android developer, don’t know how to help companies look at me as a candidate.
Any insight would be helpful, or encouragement. Thanks!
