I know folks ask questions about names a lot, so sorry about that! My question isn't quite the norm, so I wanted to ask regardless.
I attend a SLAC, and I know many professors who like to be addressed by their first name. I don't really feel comfortable addressing authority figures that personally, and so I usually still refer to them as Dr. Soandso or Professor Soandso. Is it rude or off-putting to address them this way, even if they make clear that they don't mind or even prefer to be called by their first name?
