Magnetic field through an inductor
Post Body

If I pass a current through an inductor, is the direction of a magnetic field through an inductor given by the right-hand rule, or by Lenz's Law? I imagine that the emf generated by Lenz's law inhibits the magnetic field generated by the moving current given by Lenz's law, but I'm not sure what happens in reality.

I'm trying to learn mutual inductance and so I don't know about the direction of the magnetic field. The notes keep saying that the mutual induction is "positively sensed" at the dot, but I'm not sure what it means by positively sensed (what pole of the magnetic field is "positive"?).
