Going to Iceland. Seeking advice on photographing the Northern Lights

Post Body

I am what I would classify as an advanced beginner photographer but I mostly do things in the realm of portraits and street photography. I am looking for some advice on how I can make sure I don't waste my visit to Iceland and come home with terrible photos if the Arorae. All advice/help welcome!

Note: I am traveling on a budget airline and must fit everything in a small backpack.

Equipment I am considering bringing:

Nikon D3100 with kit lens

50mm 1.8 prime lens

70-300mm 4.5-5.6 zoom lens

A small tripod
